We had a wonderful visit with Mom and Dad and we are sad now that they are gone. The only consolation is that we can watch commercials and eat onions again! (Those who know my dad will understand!) On Monday Dad stayed home with Connor and had a little adventure of their own. Mom, Andrea, and I took the train into Chicago and went to the Art Institute to check out the paintings. We saw some very famous pieces and it was great to tour with Mom as our personal guide. Later, we walked the Magnificient Mile where all of the big shopping is. Here are a few pictures that show our day!

Our Saturday started out a little hectic because Connor woke up sick and we had to take him in to see the Doctor. So, that is the second Heid into the doctor’s office in two days! Once that was all taken care of, we went to a place called Walker’s Pancake House for breakfast. I had an apple pie pancake, which was basically a huge apple fritter thing with vanilla ice cream on top. Ah, breakfast of champions!
We then drove Mom and Andrea downtown and they went to Navy Pier and took an architectural history boat ride along the Chicago River (it runs right through the city). Andrea’s Sister, Carlene, also got in on the action as she had a layover in Chicago today. Dad, Connor and I went to take in some more important history, namely Wrigley Field. It was a good time to go because the Cubs are out of town, but some would argue they have been “out of town” most the season.

Later we went fishing at this pond where we caught blue gill one after another. Connor was using his new Superman fishing pole and caught the biggest fish all by himself. He was even doing a great job putting the worms on the hooks and everything. The funniest part was when Dad and I started catching bullfrogs on rubber worms. These frogs were so stupid! I had one that I kept teasing with the worm and then moving it right before he went for it. So after about six times of doing this, it was within jumping distance of Dad’s foot. So, of course I dangled it right around his foot (and Dad is just fishing away unaware of what I am doing). The next thing you know the frog jumps up, hits Dad’s leg, and ends up sitting on his shoe! It was classic.

The other big news that we forgot to report was that Connor got his new bike a few days ago. The deal was that when he could write all his letters, we would get him a bike. The poor kid passed the test last Monday and we had been searching for a bike ever since. Finally we found a sweet Batman bike at Costco (…….shocks…….pegs……..lucky!). So today after we were done fishing, Connor got to ride his bike all around the lake. I still have to get some pictures of him on it. He thought it was pretty funny to ride up behind people and yell “Look out, comin’ through!”
Then when we finally got home, we were walking into the house and Dad spotted the first firefly of the summer. We have been waiting to see them and started to wonder if they even lived around us. They are really cool to watch and I even caught one. It was very fond of Mom and kept trying to land on her! After all, she is the nicest one in the family. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the weekend has in store for us.

So Mom and Dad made it to Chicago after sitting on the runway in Houston for a couple of hours because of bad weather. We had braced ourselves for some serious grumpy beginnings, but they were really fun! This morning we all piled into the car and drove up to my work in Libertyville. So we decided that it might be fun (and a little daring on my part) to let Mom, Dad, Andrea, and Connor come in the building. So after registering everybody and passing a short background check, the Heid family got past security and into Motorola! Connor kept trying to swipe his temporary ID badge on every card reader in the place and Dad made himself right at home in the blood pressure machine. We had some fun in the “Experience Zone” where you can test all of the cool products. I think I have Dad sold on getting some Oakley OROKR sunglasses with bluetooth and mom is going to get the Burton Jacket with built in speakers!
After our visit, I had to stay and work, but they kept on partying all the way to the emergency room. Dad got his knee drained and now we are at home trying to figure out what fun thing to do next. Wish the rest of you were here! More pictures and fun stories to come later.

Today was a great day, and Andrea and I both got to speek in Church. Andrea gave a wonderful talk and made me proud to be her hubby! When Andrea was introducing us, she mentioned that we have a five-year-old named Connor. Connor then stood up and raised his hand and waived to everybody! I was snickering behind Andrea. Yesterday I helped out at the Stake Youth Conference and had a good time getting to know the youth. There was a great mix of kids and it was fun to be involved.
Friday night we went over to a family’s house in the ward for a BBQ. They are a really neat family and he got his MBA from BYU and has had a career in marketing. Everybody seems to have a lot of respect for the fact that I am at Thunderbird and they have nothing but good things to say about it. So, hopefully future employeers will feel the same way!
I got to go down to the downtown office last week and I felt very professional. Took the train in, caught a cab over to the high-rise office, and tryed to pretend that the view out the windows wasn’t spectacular! I got to go out to lunch with some of our key creative agency people and had a good time. Later I sat in on a presentation that highlighted all of the sweet phones that will be coming out in the next few months. There are some pretty cool phones and I was excited to get a sneak peak! Later that night I got to go out to dinner with a few other Thundebirds and their boss. It was a place like Rodizio Grill, so it was nice to eat on somebody else’s expense account.
Now we are getting excited for Mom and Dad to come out and visit this week!

This was kind of a cold, wet weekend here in Chicagoland. We took Connor to see “Cars” and pretty much just stayed inside relaxing. Some of our younger friends went to the Chicago White Sox game and then went to the Blues Festival downtown. I was pretty content watching the end of the game on TV and singing my own blues, so I guess I’m getting old!
When we were at Cars, we looked around and all the other little kids had these Cars trading cards that they were given with their tickets. Because I bought the tickets the night before, we didn’t get any cards. So I guarded the seats and Connor went out to find out about the cards. He came back with a set of cards and I asked him how it went. He said “Well, I went out there and they said they didn’t have any left. But I said that I knew that they still had some and I wanted one. Then the lady gave me one.” If that isn’t Andrea’s son, I don’t know who is!
Here is a little picture of Connor outside the Chicago Temple on our way home from Church.

So Motorola has all of these cool rec rooms around the building with pool and ping pong. My car-pooling buddy Ryan (from BYU doing an undergrad internship) told me to come over at lunch at see if I could match up with the regulars. So I go over to where these guys are playing and patiently wait through 4 games while this one dude smokes everybody. So then I step up and we rally for a minute and it looks like I am going to give him some legitimate competition. I win the first point and on the second point I hit the ball straight up in the air and through a hole in the ceiling! So 10 of us are listening to this ball bouncing around overhead hoping that it will come down because it is the only ball we have. No such luck.
So, basically the new guy comes in, wins a point from the reigning champ, and then promptly loses their ball! It was honestly the worst mis-hit I have ever seen! Ah, excellent networking move…

It is amazing how much better a 4-day work week is! Anyway, things are going well at Motorola and I am going to doing some exciting things this summer. Next week I am helping out with the company launch party of the Moto Q. Will anybody notice if I slip one of those bad boys in my pocket??
We took Connor down to the zoo yesterday and it was pretty fun. We have notice that most everybody is pretty friendly out here and it makes the day more fun! We are trying to get a feel for just how cold it is here during the winter and whether or not it is something that we would be interested in trying.

We did have an excellent Chicago-style pizza the other night, so that was a check in the “+” column.
Here are a few of the pictures from other outings.
Connor and Andrea on the shore at Lake Michigan. It has warmed up a lot since then.
Connor’s little playground at our complex.
A little picture downtown. The river goes right through and people were cruise up and down in their boats.
Connor taking a pictures with a few sailors on Memorial Day.
Buckingham Fountain. The cool thing about this picture is that there was a picture of this fountain at the CMC in Prague. We had no idea we would be going to Chicago to see it!
Sail boats.
