So Sunday after Church our Sister Vandergraff (Stake President’s wife) asked us if we had plans for Monday night. Thinking it was a trick question, we carefully stated that we hadn’t made firm plans yet. She then had us follow her to her car and gave us three tickets to join them in their suite at the White Sox game. The law firm that he is a partner at represents the White Sox.
So on Monday I left work early and we headed down to US Cellular Field to watch the Sox take on the Twins. We quickly found that flashing our tickets got us in to some pretty secure places (places I’ve seen Grandpa Parry kicked out of many times!). So we made our way down close to the field and Connor got his ticket autographed by Joe Nathan of the Twins (who picked up his 20th save tonight).
Then we headed up to the suite to begin some serious eating. Fruit and veggie trays, endless supplies of hot dogs and buffalo wings, it was all good. Then the dessert cart came around and pretty much gave us anything we wanted. Helmet sundaes and so much more!
The stadium is really cool and has a whole “Fun”damental zone for the kids to practice their skills. Connor fielded ground balls, took BP in the cages, and was even timed home to first.
The Sox got beat, but we had a great time. We are officially White Sox fans now!

Friday night Andrea and I took the opportunity of sending Connor over with some friends and had a date. We saw the cutest movie at this little dollar theater we found. (Well, 2 dollars actually). Everybody needs to see Akeelah and the Bee! We loved it. Has anybody seen it? Here is a quick overview on it:
An inspirational drama, AKEELAH AND THE BEE is the story of Akeelah Anderson (Keke Palmer), a precocious eleven-year-old girl from south Los Angeles with a gift for words. Despite the objections of her mother Tanya (Angela Bassett), Akeelah enters various spelling contests, for which she is tutored by the forthright Dr. Larabee (Laurence Fishburne); her principal Mr. Welch (Curtis Armstrong) and the proud residents of her neighborhood. Akeelah’s aptitude earns her an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee and in turn unites her neighborhood who witness the courage and inspiration of one amazing little girl.
Saturday night we had some new friends over for dinner. The Saramientos are from Colombia originally, but have been working for Motorola in Florida for the last 5 years. They have 3 girls and are really neat people. Juan actually was aceepted to the Air Force Academy as a Columbian and his story is very interesting. His wife was a lawyer in Colombia and a teacher in Florida. They lived at our complex while they were closing on their house a couple of miles away from here. We had a fun evening and I had the girls teaching Connor words in Spanish. Fun times!!

Andrea said she wasn’t getting very good coverage on her blog, so here are some shots for the “Taste of Chicago” last week. The divers were pretty sweet and I thought that it looked cool with the skyline in the background. (Dana, there could be a future in this act for you!)

This last week we all took a turn being sick, but healed just in time for the 4th of July. Sunday morning our good friend Liem (fellow T-Bird and Prague alum) visited us from Cincinati where he is interning with P&G. We had a nice visit with him. Later that day we left for St. Louis to see Rachael and Aaron Saunders. They are two of our favorite people and their son Cameron is a little cutie. Andrea and Rachael are cousins and Aaron and I would hang out even if there was no forced family obligation! Aaron’s parents live down there and were wonderful hosts to us poor students traveling on a shoe-string budget. We stayed up late playing this card game that was really fun, but I can’t remember the name. When you get rid of all of your cards, you say the name of the game, but I never got to say it, so I don’t know the name of the game. (Sweet, four commas!)
Aaron took some great pictures and gave them to me on a CD, so I will post those tomorrow. As for now, here are a few of ours.

So Andrea, Connor and I went an a little adventure today. We rented a canoe for an hour at this beautiful lake and recreation area. We rowed out of the little harbor into the main part of the lake and almost dumped ourselves out! It was a close call—–the wind was really blowing! So we decided to hug the shore line and we started catching a few fish. Here are some pictures from the day below and if you click on this link you can download a video of me catching a delicious bass, Napolean. (It is a huge file, so right click, save as, and then grab a snack while it downloads.
